The first creative works – classic thin stained-glass installed in the windows of public buildings, with emphasis on spatial distinctions in buildings. The early E. Markūnas stained-glass phase could be called “glass painting” – shiny paintings, filtering the light and brightening the atmosphere in spaces. Stained-glass has a specific property – the ability to change depending on the light. The artist links the art of glass with Bible and folk themes.
In all the elements of the composition E. Markūnas looks with a different-from-everyday glance, because for him these are the signs of eternity, the creation of the world actualized in mosaic.
In subsequent stained-glass works of Eimutis Markūnas new features began to emerge – the creation of composition with a harmonization of decorative images with realistic stories. The merging of two different imaging techniques – planar and three-dimensional, has become one of the most important features of the artist’s work. The inception of perspective expanded the range of meaning, brought new aspects to the content of the stained-glass, similar to easel painting.
Markūnas’ stained-glass is not just for interior decorative purposes – it is important for the author for his work to be both durable and conceptual. The author does not avoid specific scenes neither generalized themes. In the stained-glass works, such classical values of art, such as line-drawing and brushstrokes, solid single-color spot, the composition of geometric forms and classical academic drawing fragments.
