Eimutis Markūnas
- Born on 7th of June 1959.
- 1970 – 1974 studied at Kaunas 27th secondary school.
- 1971 – 1974 studied at the Kaunas Art School.
- 1974 – 1978 studied artistic glass manufacturing at Kaunas
Stepas Žukas Applied Arts College (now Justinas Vienožinskis Arts
Center at Kaunas College). - 1978 – 1983 studied at the Monumental Art Department, Stained Glass, at
Vilnius Art Institute (now Vilnius Academy of Arts).
E. Markūnas is part of a breakthrough movement, whose creative work is
focused not only on objecthood, but on content, textuality &
communication to the spectator and close relations with body,
material and the environment. A courage to reveal and risk himself is
embodied in the artist’s way of living and creating. The messages in
his contemporary thematics and unusual shapes set Eimutis Markūnas
apart from other artists of his generation.
E. Markūnas is an active participant in group initiatives, organizes
solo shows, participates in plein-airs and have been involved in
various art movements. He is a member of the Lithuanian Artists’
Union since 1990. He creates not only stained glass, paintings and
objects, but also has his praxis within the performance media.
Hisworks have been exhibited in several different European countries and
he holds numerous national and international awards for his creative
work. By participating in the diverse European art Biennials and
symposiums he not only promotes himself and his works, but also
Lithuania by way of representation.
Eimutis Markūnas’ artworks are kept in private and public collections,
e.g. galleries, banks and museums.
